Welcome to

the Fredericksburg Area Museum

Welcome to the Museum!  Housed in historic Town Hall/Market House (c. 1816), FAM’s mission—to collect, research, interpret, teach and preserve the history of our region—is the foundation of the Museum’s programs and events, exhibitions, educational initiatives, and collecting activities that touch the lives of all citizens and help them make meaningful and personal connections to history.

The Collection

FAM’s collection of objects span more than ten thousand years of history!  Ranging from Native American artifacts to Black Lives Matter posters, the objects support the vast and rich stories of our community and offer insight into the lives of those that have paddled our river, walked our streets, worked our fields, run our businesses and government, attended our schools and churches, and participate in national movements.
